Believe me, I have nothing against clean eating and physical activity. BUT HERE’S THE KICKER: What are your motivations ladies? If you are preparing to do these things because you are sitting in self-disgust then I beg you: DON’T DO IT! If you were NOT walking on a treadmill two weeks ago then why the sudden decision to do it now? This is what I call a RED FLAG. A red flag is something that requires questioning? “Why do I want to do this?” “What is motivating me to do this?” “Am I doing this because I love myself or because I can barely stand how I feel in my skin?”
Maybe your answers are all good and well. Maybe it’s true that you’re ready for a life change. Maybe it’s true that you love yourself so much just the way you are that you want to give this to yourself… like your own little Christmas present. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Unfortunately, most women I have spoken to over the last year would admit it’s because they can’t stand their bodies. In fact, many of them are completely disgusted with their bodies! THIS IS THEIR MOTIVATION! "I hate my body and how it feels and I’ve got to start doing something about it NOW!" There is a collective feeling of desperation. You are not alone. But its no wonder why so many of us fail. With this kind of thinking it’s completely inevitable.
So let’s get our heads screwed on straight first! This way, when we do move forward with the intentions of getting back on track it will be for the right reasons. Believe me, THIS IS CRUCIAL!
First things first: YOU HAVE TO BE MOTIVATED BY SELF-LOVE. I hear people talk about this all the time, as if it’s the easiest thing in the world to do or as if it’s the obvious thing to do. I know from experience that AUTHENTICALLY loving yourself when your body feels yucky is NOT EASY!
Let’s quickly recap the blog post 'What does a Body Love holiday season look like?':
STOP THE INSANITY – If you are being motivated by self-disgust (and this requires brutal honesty) then I beg you to stop the insanity of food and exercise planning. Immediately stop the pressure and demands of weight loss. You have to do this first, then you can move on to the next step.
TRUST – Move into a space of trust! Trust your body. Trust yourself. This means that you trust your body’s capabilities. You trust that you make good choices that are for your highest and greatest good. YOU CAN BE TRUSTED.
ACCEPTANCE – Allow yourself to sit in discomfort because it is only temporary. Remember why you are uncomfortable. It’s because you were enjoying the holidays. You weren’t depriving yourself of anything. You were living in the moment. You were celebrating with the people you love the most in your life. You were living without regrets! BE PROUD FOR ALLOWING YOURSELF TO ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS IN THIS WAY! This is a really big accomplishment! You allowed yourself freedom! And because of this, accept your body in this moment. Believe me, it is only temporary with this kind of thinking!!! I PROMISE YOU!
LOVE – Love yourself no matter what! Think kind and loving thoughts about yourself! Write down great things about yourself if you have to! Compliment yourself. Be proud of yourself. If you happen to catch yourself thinking mean and hurtful thoughts about your body or about you as a person, this is your opportunity to be your own best friend. Correct yourself and don’t put up with your own crap. YOU HAVE TO LOVE YOURSELF! This IS the key to ending your body battle!
JOY – Remember your whole life. Remember the simple things. Remember what life is really about! Imagine this day to be your last. Have no regrets.
REPEAT – Say this over and over to yourself.
